Marie Schuyler Dreaver
Marie Schuyler Dreaver is a proud member of the Oneida Nation of the Thames and the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians, and is of the Turtle Clan. Marie holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a minor in Psychology from Wayne State University and has earned three Indigenous Language Certificates from Western University in Ontario. A lifelong member of Detroit’s Urban Native community, she has been actively involved since childhood and has served on the Board of Directors for the North American Indian Association of Detroit.
Her passions include family, community healing, cultural revitalization, traditional foods, Indigenous medicines and protocols, mental health, and well-being. Marie is a trained facilitator in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) suicide intervention training, the KAIROS Blanket Exercise, and the Native American Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist Training (SAPST) in addition have attended the following training as an attendee; Mental Health First Aid.
Marie leads an active lifestyle and enjoys strength training, running, cycling, gardening, cooking, and traveling. Above all, she treasures time spent with her family. Her most meaningful accomplishment has been raising her three children alongside her life partner of 31 years, Harvey. Together, they have broken cycles of colonization and are raising the first generation in their family with a deep-rooted foundation in self-identity, traditional teachings, language, ceremonies, and cultural practices.
